In 2015, Inria confirmed its place amongst the world leaders in a number of fields. A large amount of our projects, many of them multidisciplinary in nature, were recognised by the scientific community. Some of these projects have also caught the attention of a wider public, including the discovery of some major security failures, the development of new types of robot, collaboration with medical researchers in the fields of epidemiology and oncology, and participation in ongoing research into climate change.
Our scientific work this year has once again been guided by concerns for its economic and social impact, a common thread that runs through this annual report.
We have built up Inria’s presence and visibility on the European and international stages, with increased activity in Silicon Valley and Chile, and the awarding of several ERC grants facing a strong competition.
We celebrated the achievement of thirty years in enterprise creation by bringing together the 120 start-up companies that have grown out of Inria, highlighting our experience in technology transfer and value creation.
In addition, we have signed a new contract covering our performance objectives, and established an internal employee satisfaction survey to measure our shared pride in our contribution to the activities of the Institute.

All our activities form part of a long term research programme. So, 2016 is a year in which we continue our research and technology transfer projects, and we can ensure that we never lose sight of their impact!
